The challenge of pregnancy and postpartum
Pregnancy and the postpartum period brings enormous physiological, emotional, psychological, and hormonal changes. These shifts can cause significant distress, and many women on the motherhood journey can feel unprepared, alone, and overwhelmed. The ups and downs of new parenthood can feel nearly impossible to manage without extra help and support. Unfortunately, societal and cultural factors often further exacerbate the under-resourcing of new mothers when they are feeling increased financial, emotional, and logistical pressures to care for their new babies.
Overwhelm, anxiety, depression, and post-partum mood disorders are common occurrences in new mothers as a result of the increased pressure they feel. In addition, the internal and societal pressures to be the “perfect mother” can contribute to a feeling of it all being just too much.
You are not alone
Expecting and new mothers often feel isolated and alone. This is one of motherhood’s paradoxes because, of course, you are not alone. Across time and cultures, mothers have endured the same physical and emotional challenges you are facing now. The struggles you are having are not a reflection of your strength or your worth, they are part of what it means to step into your new powerful role as a mother.
There is nothing more universal than pregnancy and raising children, and yet our culture can often treat it as a private, even taboo topic that should be kept behind closed doors. Motherhood can be exhausting, disorienting, and grief filled, while also paradoxically being filled with joy and beauty. Dancing with the waves of motherhood is an immense learning curve, and getting support by someone who understands both personally and professionally what that means can be life-changing. When you have space to process the full range of these experiences with a compassionate other, you can reclaim your balance and find deeper meaning in your journey.
Therapy can help you get the support you need
As a mother of two, I understand firsthand how overwhelming this season of life can be. Parenthood is one of life’s biggest adjustments, and bumps along the way are inevitable - you are traveling down the biggest learning curve of your lifetime.
In therapy, I provide a safe and supportive space for you to feel less alone, reconnect with yourself, and strengthen your bond with your child, your partner, and yourself. Therapy for postpartum and pregnancy can help mothers find the support they deserve. My goal for our work together is helping you come into deeper connection with yourself so you can feel more connected to your children and family.
When mothers feel supported, valued, and honored, they can pass that care on to their babies and raise caring, confident, and conscious children. I am passionate about helping mothers get the support they need to find a place of solace so they can feel resourced and supported.
